WHY SARA? WHY NOW?
In Sierra Leone, a Sara is more than a gathering, it’s where we show up for one another, share food, and keep memories alive. As our parents and elders age, and as more of us are born or raised abroad, too many of our family stories risk being forgotten.
This event was created so we don’t lose them. It’s a chance to gather across tribes, generations, and continents to celebrate our community, preserve our stories, and pass on the legacy of who we are.
WHY ATTEND?
To Belong: Reconnect with Sierra Leoneans in the DMV and across the diaspora.
To Remember: Add your voice, your photo, or simply your listening heart to our living archive.
To Honor: Share blessings, food, and music the way our families always have.
To Preserve: Be part of history as we build a community archive for generations to come.
